Beacon Challenge puts Trotters through their paces

A bright morning on Sunday the 12th of September dawned for the running of the "Beacon Challenge" in IvyBridge near Plymouth. 125 runners took part in the tough yet scenic 7.5 mile run. It took the competitors along tracks, steep ascents and descents. The Erme Valley Harriers race packs in a river crossing and the beautiful view of the surrounding countryside once you reach the top.
Twelve Trotters completed the course with David Tomlin achieving 8th overall with a time of 55.28 knocking over 2 minutes off last year's time. The next Trotter and 1st Vet 45 was Vaughan Lindsay in 57.11 claiming 11th place. Wavel Vigers Came in with a time of 58.27 closely followed by Garry Smart in 59.36.
Other trotters where Chris Cleave 1.01.05, Alan Boone 1.06.55, Ian Langler 1.07.26, Ben Epps 1.10.25, Nigel Penwarden 1.12.00, Mark Wotton 1.13.34, Sharon Bowman 1.22.26 closely followed by Sally Ingledew 1.23.58.

The Chippenham half marathon on the same day saw lone Trotter Daryl"Tarquin"Milford on the search for another PB this week (Exeter Track 10km 36.13 PB) but a different distance. The half marathon was run on a hot day around the streets and surrounding villages. He pulled out an enviable 1.23.10 to earn him 37th place out of 1323 runners and bagging a 9 minute PB on his Torbay Half marathon in 2009.


The Alice Holt 10km near Farnham in Surrey attracted Rod and Lucy Payne along with 428 other runners .The race organised by the Farnham Runners went along gravel and woodland paths but the second 5km was full of long hills. This was only Lucy's second 10km and they both finished in 1.02.30 being 349th and 395th respectively.


The Powderham 10km in aid of Force Cancer charity was run and Stuart Moulson was 32/375 runners.Syd Willocks also took part but no times available at the moment.


Roger Hayes on Saturday 11th of September ran yet another marathon. This time it was The Slamm Marathon (Somerset Levels & Moors Marathon) which is near Langport, Somerset. It is only the second running of the event and is run mostly off road with a couple of tough hills at 19 and 25 miles (everyone had to walk them!).The race is organised by the Langport Runners and was very scenic and enjoyable .He finished in 13th place out of 83 runners in a time of 3.45.25
