Coast –to – Coast for two trotters……

Pete Aston and Adrian Youngman did the coast to coast on Saturday 17th September. Here is an account of the event.

We got up at 5am on Saturday to put away the wet tent and go to the briefing. Then after a quick 2-3 mile walk we went to the start at Foreland Point (the north point of Devon) in a hail storm to get ready for the start at about 7am.

The first run is about 6 miles up and down a large hill, before a 53 mile bike ride to Meldon reservoir starting with a 25% hill! The next stage is a quick fell race to the top of High Willhays (the highest point on Dartmoor) and back down before a rather hilly 23 mile bike ride to the end point for the first day in Princetown (arriving about 6:30pm). We camped the night in Princetown for a well earned rest!

We headed off at 7:30 for a 23 mile largely off road cycle across a very wet Dartmoor down to Totnes to begin the Kayaking section down to Dartmouth – about 8 miles. Luckily we had the wind behind us and finished the kayaking around 1pm ready for the final run along the coast path to Prawle Point near East Prawle which is the south point of Devon. This is about 19 miles and not generally very flat, but with a mixture of running and walking we finished the whole thing at around 6:30pm.

Overall, it is a fantastic experience and one I would recommend to all Trotters!
