50 Up for Inky and Series Prizes for Pete and Tina for the Run Exe 5k

On Tuesday 4th five Teignbridge Trotters travelled to Exeter for the 4th and final round of this year’s Run Exe 5k race series organised by Ironbridge Runner. Geoff Davey was the first Trotter to complete the flat off-road course 16th out of 75 finishers in 18.07. Next was Mark Wotton 56th running his first race of the series, 56th in 21.51 followed by Peter Kirby 63rd, 1st M60 in 22.42. Pete is also 1st M60 series winner. Tina Caunter was 69th in 25.56 and F50 series runner up. Glenn Jarvis was 73rd in 27.42.

On Sunday just three Trotters lined up as the Force Powderham 10k failed to grab the interest of our members. The race is run in aid of Exeter based cancer charity Force and takes place in the stunning grounds of Powderham Park in the shadow of Powderham Castle.

In a field of 306 Craig Churchill equalled his PB to finish 32nd in 44.21. Michelle Willcocks Watts was 128th in 53.46 and Derek Blackford 156th in 56.17.

Husband and wife team Gary and Caroline Clark took time out from their holiday in Mid Wales to run in the 22nd Lake Vyrnwy Half Marathon. They joined a total of 1,419 finishers soaking up the magnificent lakeside scenery. Gary finished a lofty 159th in 1.31.57 and Caroline 672nd in 1.55.42.

Graham Penn travelled to Bedfordshire to notch up his 50th Half Marathon in the Dunstable Half marathon. On a tough course run mainly off road and in blisteringly hot conditions Graham finished 30th out of 72 finishers in 2.09.46.

Inky takes up the story ‘The Dunstable Downs Challenge events, organised very ably by the Dunstable Road Runners for the past 8 years, comprise the Half, a 20 miler and a Full Marathon. They are run under Trail Running Association rules and involve self navigation. The course is mainly off road, taking in the villages of Whipsnade, Studham and Holywell, with 3 compulsory checkpoints. Conditions were warm to say the least and after precious little rain in the last few weeks, the ground was hard under foot.’
Well done Inky on recording the first 50. We look forward to reporting your 100th.

Two current and one former Teignbridge Trotter joined forces to take part in the Roadford Lake Team Triathlon and were comfortable winners by some 15 minutes. The event is held over the Olympic distance and following tradition started with the 1500m swim in which Ian Woolley recorded a time of 22.45 handing over to Darren Ellis for the 42k bike stage who recorded a time of 1.21.56. Darren, a former Trotter was forced out of running with a long term injury but is clearly no slouch on 2 wheels. Nathan Elphick ran the 10k final section in 47.08 to bring the team home first in 2.32.50. Trotter lady Helen Anthony along with former Trottette Nikki Kennard, another to be forced out through injury, also took part in the race doing the cycle leg in an all-girls team.

Roger Hayes, Roger Hales, Mark Wotton and Lance Mason all took part in the Cheddar Marathon in Somerset. All successfully completed the event but the results are not to hand at the time of going to press.

For the most up to date results for the local races look at our very own Website Race Diary. Dave Dunn does a great job of seeking out and putting up the race results hot off the press. He does this so efficiently we have heard that members of other clubs log on to our website FIRST as they know that our race diary is kept bang up to date by Dunnie. So a big well done to our Dave, keep up the good work, you are providing us all with a great service - it would seem second to none.
