Trotters take on tough hills.............

This Sunday 29th January saw the running of the “Alby’s memorial Braunton 10 ” road race in North Devon staged by the North Devon Road runners. The start (and finish) is on the athletic track and once out of the village of Braunton takes a course along quiet undulating country lanes with two steep climbs. The first is at 3- 4 miles while the second one appears just before 6 miles. The centre of the village of Heanton Punchardon marks the start of the final mile and is shortly followed by a steep descent into Wrafton. The weather was not too windy and competitors may have got a few nice views on the way over the Bristol Channel and Lundy Island! Sue Fewings did 1.23.13 and was 136th while Steve Wallace did 1.32.17.267 runners completed the tough course.

Mark Wotton was a lonely trotter at “lliswerry 8” near Newport organised by the lliswerry runners from Newport. The race attracted 534 runners who enjoyed the well marshalled course starting at the Nash school and a circular route on quiet country lanes around Newport. The course was flat and fast with Mark clocking a time of 57.33 and 182nd.

Up in Taunton near Somerset the “Hestercoombe Humdinger” took place. It was a challenging figure of eight road race with stunning scenery around the Quantock Hills. It starts and finishes at the historic Hestercombe Gardens and covers 9.5 miles. Ryan Anthony dusted off his racing shoes after a long rest and ran the course in 1.27.02 and came 181st out of 262.
