Muskies Madness a hit with the Trotters.......

On Saturday 25th May, 18 Teignbridge trotters travelled to Plymouth to take part in the first “Muskies Madness” ran by the Plymouth musketeers. The 5.5 miles of undulating multi-terrain took the runners on an  tough course through Ham Woods and surrounding lanes and roads. It was well marked with Mile markers and one water station. The race was raising money for Children’s charity CHICKS which provides free respite breaks for disadvantaged children from all over the UK.117 runner’s completed the course.

Daryl “Tarquin” Milford brought them all home in 2nd place and 1st vet 40 in 33.33 closely being chased in 5th place by Garry Smart who was 1st vet 45 in 34.47.Alan Boone came 21st in 39.23 with Travis Wood catching him in 40.17 and Mark Becker three places behind in 27th with 40.36.Gary Watson was 35th in 41.16 while Wilfred Taylor completed in 45th 43.09 and Jimmy Donovan right behind in 43.15.

On Sunday 26 May, 64 year old Peter Kirby completed the "Edinburgh Marathon" in 3:40:33. Conditions were warm & sunny, so Peter was pleased with his time which gave him a "Good for Age" qualification time for the 2014 London Marathon. Overall, this was Peter's 21st marathon, and he has completed 12 of these since he turned 60!

Up at Exeter University Campus Sharon Bowman completed her 3rd "Aquathlon" in a series of the four put on by Exeter Triathlon club. The swim was in an outdoor pool and with the sun shining it made it really feel like summer .After 24 lengths of the pool (11.58) she had to run a two lap and hilly 5km (25.37)making a total of 37.35.

Can I just take this report to wish all the "Virgins" and  "veterans" a safe and strong run in the "Dartmoor Discovery" next Saturday and to all the "Team" of organisers and marshals that without them the race wouldnt exist. Also a special "GOOD LUCK"to chairman and smokes on their 100th marathon epic in the race.
