Short and sharp races this week for the trotters ....................

Seven Trotters took part in the second round of the"Run Exe 5k" running race on Tuesday 4th June. Four of these Trotters had also taken part in the 1st (May) round, so have signalled their intent on wanting to complete the series (four out the five races must be completed to qualify. This month’s weather was markedly better than last month’s wind and rain, with perfect sunshine.
Tarquin again led the Trotters home, but despite bettering his time from last month by over 20 seconds, he had to settle for 6th place with a time of 16:57. However, he was again 1st MV40, so is now well placed for the series, providing he can complete at least two more of the rounds. Craig Churchill at last realised his goal of achieving a sub-20 minute time for the distance and finished with a time of 19:50. This new 5k PB time was ten seconds faster than his time from last month.
Gary Watson made a welcome appearance and finished with a time of 20:28 and was third MV55 on the day.Helen Anthony stormed in with 20.36 and  Jackie Woon finished in a time of 21:57 and was the 1st FV50 on the day, so pressure is now on her to complete the remaining three rounds, to stand a chance of winning a series prize for her age group. Normally an occasional racer, Derek Blackford has been seen at many events so far this year and has signalled his intention to give the club’s championship a go this year by appearing on the start line of this event. Derek finished in a time of 23:59. Despite being outsprinted by Derek, Dave Dunn clung onto his shoulder to record a finishing time of 24:00. Whilst all four Trotters who have raced in both rounds this year have bettered their time this time, the run of the night belonged to our Ladies Captain, Catherine Barnes, who took a whooping one minute and six seconds off her time from last month. Catherine put on a real surge in the final 250 metres to chase down a MV55 SWRR runner and even though she couldn’t quite overhaul him, she closed a sizable gap and finished on his shoulder to record a new 5k PB time of 26:22.(report by Tarquin)
