Oh My Obelisk!, and a marathon weekend

Our friends at Dawlish Coasters staged their Oh My Obelisk! race on Sunday 15th January. There was a chilly breeze at the start of this approximately 11-mile event, but otherwise the weather conditions were good for racing, and although the off road sections were naturally muddy and slippery overall the conditions were quite good.

Trotter results are: Tim Pratt (4, 1:17:05), Geoff Davey (5, 1:17:40), Garry Smart (11, 1:21:42), Tracy Elphick (43, 1:34:24), Craig Churchill (45, 1:35:00), Garrie Edwards (47, 1:35:25), Paul Sharples Snr (55, 1:38:59), Paul Sharples Jnr (76, 1:43:47), Stuart Moulson (79, 1:44:22), Nigel Barnett (83, 1:45:05), Lucy Holmyard (85, 1:45:36), Nathan Elphick (92, 1:47:15), Derek Skinner (93, 1:47:50), Jim Donovan (103, 1:49:34), Keith Anderson (106, 1:51:22), Eamon Crowe (125, 1:59:16), Mark Wotton (137, 2:02:41), Ruth Johnson (139, 2:03:37), Kirsty Bowman (144, 2:06:06), Emma Pearcy (145, 2:06:14), Kathryn Steemson (147, 2:07:18) and Tina Caunter (158, 2:21:39). There were 174 finishers.

There were a lot of prizes for Trotters too, with the men getting first places in the following categories; Tim Pratt 1st senior male, Geoff Davey 1st MV40, Garry Smart 1st MV50 and Paul Sharples 1st MV60.  Also, Tim, Geoff and Garry made up the 1st male team at the event.  Finally, Tracy Elphick claimed 1st FV40 so all-in-all it was a great race for the Trotters.

Richard Keatley did two marathons over the weekend, in Betteshanger in Kent. The route both days was 6 laps of 4.37 miles, taking place around Fowlmead Country Park, which is made up of trail and tarmac cycle track. Richard’s aim this year is try and complete 52 marathons in a calendar year.

Day 1 started with an early drive, setting off at 4:30am and the weather conditions were not bad; windy & icy. Richard took it steady and he enjoyed catching up with some friends en route, finishing in 5:10. Day 2 the weather was a totally different story, with snow, mud, rain ice wind & really cold. Quite a few had pulled out of day 2 but Richard dug in to get his 38th marathon done, finishing in 5:45.
