Final curtain fall for Sherborne Castles 10k

Five Teignbridge Trotters were in Dorset on Sunday, attending what was likely to be the final Sherborne Castles 10k, organised by Yeovil Town Road Running Club and the Rotary Club of Sherborne Castles. The event was staged in the attractive estate grounds, courtesy of the owners, Mr & Mrs John Wingfield - Digby. Until 2008, Sherborne Castle was also home to the gruelling UK Ironman 70.3 Triathlon.

Conditions were near perfect, with a bright blue sky and moderate breeze for the 277 competitors. The well marshalled course was mainly off road, relatively mud free and contained several challenging ascents.

First Trotter past the finish line, after a strong start, was Mark Wotton, 55th overall, in a time of 44:57, followed by Graham Penn, 120th in 50:43. Marion Witham, now recovered from recent injury led the ladies home in an inspired 1:04:48, with Julie Crump and Angela Weeks posting a joint 1:08:32.
