Trotters “ladies 10km” tempts 32 trottettes……………..

The annual “Newton Abbot ladies 10km” race took place on Sunday 18th September and although the skies were grey and rain had fallen over night, the race stayed dry throughout.232 ladies raced the undulating and scenic course that starts just on the lane outside Dornafield Caravan Park near Ipplepen and takes the runners through Ogwell and into Denbury and finishing in the well-kept grounds of the Caravan Park by kind permission of Mr Dewhirst.

This race has been held here for fourteen years and for every entry taken by the Teignbridge Trotters, a donation goes towards Mr Dewhirst’s chosen charity which is Bowel Cancer UK this year. The Race Director Michelle Willocks-Watts, who will be stepping down from this post after three years, presented him with a cheque for £520 and a beautiful framed painting done by John Skinner (a well-known local artist) of which all the competitor’s received a small copy to mark their achievement.45 entries were taken on the day (a record for the last 5 years) and 32 trotter ladies ran it and for a few it was their first race as a trotter. The course was well marshalled by the Trotter men and Nikki Kennard was in charge of this as Chief Marshal and after five years she too will be stepping down from the post.
