Trotters first & second at Teignmouth 3 legged race.........

Sunday 29th July saw the annual Teignmouth 3 legged race. It's a race described by the organisers as 'not for the faint hearted'. In it's early days there used to be a total of 17 pubs taking part, this reduced to 14 over the last few years, but imagine our Trotters faces when they learnt that this year there would only be 11 pubs!
Never the less, some serious drinking would still need to be done to complete the course.

Pre race favorites Tarquin and Monkey, dressed as Bradley Wiggins and the King of the Mountains, got off to a flyer as they downed their half pint of lager at the start and sped off to the next pub. This year the course was run in reverse, so there was a quick succession of pubs before the teams could get into any sort of rhythm.

It soon became clear that this was a two horse race, with the defending champions being pushed hard by Skinns & Otter.

Unlike the Shaldon 3 legged race, the selection of drinks is a bit more varied than lager and bitter, hence being not for the faint hearted! But of course our hardy bunch are more than capable of downing 11 mixed drinks and running a mile or so tied up at the ankle by a pair of tights.

At the half way stage it was neck and neck, and as the two teams came out of the Cellars Bar on the sea front, Skinns and Otter put on a charge. They edged their way in front, however, the joy on their faces was short lived as disaster struck - their tights snapped! They quickly tied themselves together again but it was to late, Monkey and Tarquin were gone – the race was over.

The triumphant duo crossed the line back at the Ship Inn and were duly crowned champions once again. The gallant runners up had pushed them hard and were left wondering what might have been.

Further down the field the other Trotter pairing of Skippy and Fizz, were taking an altogether different approach to the race! I do believe they were actually enjoying the fine selection of drinks on offer. When they crossed the line I’m sure they could have gone round again!

Next up is the Shaldon 3 legged race. This year a new rule has been introduced by the Trotters; Mixed teams!

See you on Boxing Day!
