Marathon firsts this weekend ........

Sally "marathon queen" Ingledew and Sharon"fizz" Bowman went up to Milton Keynes on Friday 9th November to take on the “Enigma Fireworks double marathons” held on the traffic free paths around Caldecott Lake, just off Bletchley Way. It was the first double marathon Fizz had ever done but for Sally it made her total of Enigma marathons to 26 although not all around the same lake. The marathon consisted of seven laps of just over three miles each. On Saturday 10th the weather for the first couple of laps was fine but gradually the rain came in but didn’t dampen the duos spirits. They came over the finish together in 4.31.47 and joint 34th place out of 54 runners. The Sunday dawned bright but with a strong cold wind and the intrepid twosome dug deep putting yesterday’s marathon behind them and completed in 4.41.50 and once again were 34th out of 57 competitors this day. This made Sally’s total marathons up to 122 while Fizz clocked her 21st!

Dave Dunn decided to celebrate his 60th birthday with a marathon in France. This was his 50th marathon to date and his youngest son Matt Dunn decided to join his dad in his first ever such event. The“Marathon des Alpes-Maritimes"  went from Nice to Cannes following the coast via Antibes very scenic. They had very strong winds into their faces for much of the way. The route was dead flat until 16 miles with a few little inclines around Cap d'Antibes. They had stunning views across the Baie d'Anges. Over 12,000 runners took part including half marathon and marathon relay runners. They completed the event in 4.35.10 according to their garmin watches.

Down in Newquay near Cornwall, lone 2nd Claim Trotter Hylda Stewart ran the “Brooks Westward X-country league”.In round 2 Hylda was 59th out of 76 competitors and finished in 34.02.
