About Us

Teignbridge Trotters are a friendly Newton Abbot based running club, attracting members from all over South Devon and beyond. We cater for all abilities, whether you are an experienced runner or absolute beginner. We concentrate on mainly road and off road running, along with a Winter Cross Country league.

Training takes place from Coombeshead College, Newton Abbot (TQ12 1PT) on Monday and Wednesday evenings at 7.00pm sharp.

Monday's runs consists of 4 groups.

The first is a group designed specifically for complete beginners and is a walk/jog group. Our coaches will aim to over see your progress from those initial jog/walk sessions through to joining the other more advanced groups on a Monday and Wednesday.

The second group is a 5-6 mile social/recovery run, with the emphasis on 'steady' rather than 'speed'.

The third group caters for runners wanting a slightly harder (8:30-9 min/mile pace) 8 mile "tempo" type run. It is ideal for the semi-experienced advancing runner wishing to improve.

The fourth group is our Monday ten mile group, with a steady 7:30 - 8 min/mile pace. This is really only suitable to the more experienced runner (head torches are required during the winter).

Wednesday's training consists of 5 groups.

The first group is our Wednesday ten mile group, with a steady 7:30 - 8 min/mile pace. Like the Monday group, this is really only suitable to the more experienced runner (head torches are required during the winter). This group often traverses off-road routes (unlike the Monday group).

The second, third and fourth groups are structured training sessions, each offering something different, ranging from short sprints, hill reps, parlofs, pyramids, 1k & mile efforts to name but a few. As with all sessions they are only as hard as you want them to be! Each session is specifically tailored for all abilities, with varying intensity to suit.

The fifth group is a 3 - 5 mile steady run for improvers or runners coming back from a long-term injury. Please note that this Wednesday session is not suitable for complete beginners, unlike a Monday.

A full list of each weeks available sessions can be found by clicking on the training tab on our website. All our groups are supervised by qualified coaches, many of whom have many years experience. We only cater for runners over the age of 16, as we don't have a junior section.

Other runs/training sessions.

During the year there are also many organised (un-coached) long social runs (8-20 miles) which take place on Saturday or Sunday mornings. Runs are organised by small groups of club members who meet up for a long social run at a steady pace. Contact the club coaches/leaders for details, or check out the Teignbridge Trotters Facebook group page.

A small group of members also meet on a Friday evening (6pm start), in Teignmouth, for an uncoached training session, consisting of a rolling 12 x 45 second efforts, with 12 x 45 second jogged recovery. This is for ALL abilities and all welcome. Meet: 17 Fourth Avenue TEIGNMOUTH TQ14 9DS
