Teignbridge Trotters are a friendly Newton Abbot based running club, attracting members from all over South Devon and beyond. We cater for all abilities, whether you are an experienced runner or absolute beginner. We concentrate on mainly road and off road running, along with a Winter Cross Country league.
Training takes place from Newton Abbot Recreational Trust, Newton Abbot (TQ12 2AR) on Monday and Wednesday evenings at 7.00pm sharp.
Anyone wishing to come along for the first time is more than welcome. Please take a look at the sessions available and choose one suitable to your standard of running. There is no obligation to join, try us out for two or three weeks before deciding! Please make sure you wear a reflective bib during the winter months.
We operate 5 run groups, providing stepped progression, from the 'walk/jog' beginner, right up to the more experienced eight mile runner:
Couch to 5K
These 12 week courses take place three times a year and are designed for complete beginners or runners coming back from a long term injury. The start dates for 2023 are;
Improvers Group (4-5 miles)
This group designed for those stepping up from the Couch to 5K and looking to go a little faster, and a little further.
Social Run (5-6 miles)
This group is a 5-6 mile social run, with the emphasis on 'steady' rather than 'speed', with plenty of recovery stops. This group is ideal for those who may have taken part in a race over the weekend, or for those who just want an enjoyable social run, running at the 'speed of talk'.
Main Training Run Groups
We offer two different ability groups, labelled as our 'Main Run Groups', catering for runners wanting a slightly harder 'tempo' style run, with a 'B' and an 'A' option. Both runs provide a steady continual non-stop run, with plenty of 'looping back' regrouping:
'B' option run (6-7 miles)
Which operates at roughly 8:30-9min/mile pace.
'A' option run (7-8 miles)
Which operates at roughly 8:00min/mile pace. It is ideal for the semi-experienced/advancing runner wishing to improve.
Consists of 5 groups of runs or structured training:
We offer two structured training sessions, a red and blue group.
They offer a wide range of sessions to include; longer efforts, such as 1K, 1 mile, 1200m efforts. Shorter efforts, such as short sprints, parluf and fartlek efforts. Differing types of hill training, including short and long hill repeats, hill tempo runs and down hill training.
These sessions are available to all members and are only as hard as you want to make them.
Improvers Group
This group is a 4/5 mile steady run for improvers or runners coming back from a long-term injury/lay off. Please note that this session is designed for those wanting to develop from the Couch to 5K group and is NOT meant for the more experienced or faster runner who may want an easier run. At a pace of 12:00 to 13:00 min/mile with rest breaks, this is a run with lots of chatting!
Social Run
A social run, with plenty of regrouping. Great for those wishing to step up from the 'Improvers Group'. Also suitable for faster runners, who want a nice social run and intend to run at the 'speed of talk'. Pace will be 10:00 to 12:00 min/mile.
7-8 Mile Run Group
We also offer a 7/8 mile group on a Wednesday, with a steady 7:45 - 8:30 min/mile pace. This is really only suitable to the more experienced runner (head torches are required during the winter). This group often traverses off-road routes.
A full list of each weeks available sessions can be found by clicking on the training tab on our website. All our groups are supervised by qualified coaches/leaders, many of whom have many years experience. We only cater for runners over the age of 15, as we don't have a junior section.
Saturday Morning Social Runs
We often organise ad hoc (uncoached) social runs on Saturday mornings, catering for varying abilities according to who is organising it.
These runs are organised by small groups of club members who meet up for a long social run at a steady pace. These are arranged via our Facebook group which you will be invited to join once you are a paid up member.
'Friday Club'
A small group of members also meet on a Friday evening (6.30pm start), in Newton Abbot, for an uncoached training session, consisting of a rolling 12 x 45 second efforts, with 12 x 45 second jogged recovery/loop back. This is for ALL abilities and all welcome.
Meet: By the footbridge at the back of the racecourse on the Brunel Industrial Estate.
