Sam Galvin reported from the Barnstaple Half Marathon, organised by Children's Hospice South West, to raise funds for families living with life-limiting conditions. The Half is renowned for its flat and fast course, ideal for chasing personal bests or enjoying a relaxed run through North Devon’s natural beauty. Starting and finishing in Rock Park, the route winds through a mix of closed roads and the picturesque Tarka Trail, offering riverside views and gentle terrain. It was quite a relaxed atmosphere with bands and music on route and great marshalling. "I manage to finish (per my watch) in 2 hrs 6 mins a half marathon PB for me so very pleased with that."

Callum Price completed his first marathon at Barnstaple in great time of 4:57:45,

Ben Akyol successfully took part in the Cheshire Ring 100. "I gave it everything and the 102 miles broke me but managed to somehow come away with 2nd in 16hr 29mn. Such a tough day running at my limit. Had a bad start, tore something in my groin around mile 5, thought I was going to have to pull out. Somehow manage to run it off and by the marathon distance was able to push into the lead and started to keep pushing running 6.52 for 50 miles. I thought right this is on! But I couldn’t quite completely separate myself from Charles behind me. Everything was going well (except my brown sludge for wee). Charles attempted to take the lead over me a couple of times but it was short lived and I was able to break the elastic and run ahead out of sight. After the last aid station at 89 miles we had a half marathon to go and it became an all out race in heavy rain and the dark (not what I wanted)!.

I was able to keep the light from his head torch at bay, then at 95 miles my calves seized and I couldn’t run. I knew I was going to lose the lead and there wasn’t anything I could do. He passed me and I knew all I could do was keep moving to hold onto 2nd. It’s was the most painful unhealthy experience of my life as I was done. Then at 100 miles my legs freed up and I could run in hard the last couple of miles holding 2nd place.

Ben Tampkins with schoolmate Josh travelled north to complete his first ever marathon at the weekend. Finishing in the Lochness Race in an impressive 3.33.55, conditions were fairly kind, bright and cool. The course travels along the south side of the Loch, finishing in Inverness. Ben's much appreciated picking the brains of many experienced Trotter Marathon runners over recent months.

Chris Andrews took part in the Robin Hood half marathon in Nottingham, in 2 hours 3 mins. With 14000 participants it was the biggest entry since the half marathon began. Chris was pleased with his improvement from last year.
