Roger Easterbrook, Max Conroy and Julie Webb travelled the short trip to take part in The Dartmouth Regatta 5.1 Mile Road Race, on Saturday 28th August.

A particularly tough event, with some steep ascents to negotiate. The runners set off along South Embankment, before climbing Weeke Hill. Having got to the top, the elevation levelled out as they passed through Stoke Fleming. They then headed back towards Little Dartmouth, before the long run back to the finish, via the South Embankment on top of Boatfloat Bridge.

Roger ran superbly, by matching his third place finish in 2019. Roger clocked a time of 00:31:38.

Julie and Max also ran particularly well in this popular race. Max finished in 69th place, clocking a time of 00:47:05 and Julie completed the test in 00:59:44 to claim 91st place. Lee Turner won the event in a superb time of 00:29:48.

There were 98 entrants.

On Wednesday 25th August, Ian and Ella Bowles and Eleanor Taylor travelled to Merrivale to run the Trio of Tors. This was a 8km fell race with 300m of ascent, organised by Richard Best.

Runners had been reminded that conditions on the moor are changeable and it might be necessary to carry a waterproof. On the night, the weather was clear and mild – perfect for running. Conditions underfoot were also great for runners IF they avoided the boggy bits.

The route went up to a distinctive standing stone, then up again towards King’s Tor. Next, the route went around the Swelltor Quarry to the mast at North Hessary Tor via a slog up lots of sheep tracks – as the footpath was hidden among the vegetation.

Downhill all the way from there!!!! The best route i.e. the less boggy route - veered towards the trees at the Merrivale car park, then to the standing stone, finishing by the Dartmoor Inn.

Ella led our trio home, finishing in 56th place, clocking a time of 00:56:04. Her performance also won her the F60 age category.

Ian completed the tough race in 01:4:09 to finish in 65th place and Eleanor posted time of 01:06:51.
